A 22 days African Adventure

An African safari into the wilderness of Namibia: Sossousvlei, Kaokoveld, Kunene River
and the Epupa Falls. The wilderness of Botswana: Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park.
The Victoria Falls in Zambia. Wildlife & Culture of a bygone era, found as it was before we arrived.

Windhoek - Pick up at the airport in Windhoek. The capital of Namibia. After settling into our camp we spend the afternoon exploring this cosmopolitan city, admiring the Churches and monuments. Tonight we dine with our guide, and enjoy a safari briefing.

Sesriem and Sossusvlei - After breakfast we transverse majestic mountain ranges en route to our first magical destination. We will explore the Sesriem Canyon and the highest dunes in the world: the dunes of Sossusvlei. You will have the opportunity to climb one of these ever-changing Namib summits. It is an experience never to be forgotten as we enter a different world, the world of the sands of time. Sunset is spent chasing black shadows across red dunes. BLD

Swakopmund - Sunrise is greeted and, after breakfast, head out towards the cold Atlantic Ocean once more. En route we cross the Kuiseb Canyon and the Namib-Naukluft Park. This area has unique photographic opportunities. Transverse the Namib sand once more and make for the holiday Mecca of Swakopmund. Accommodation is in bungalows or hotels, allowing us to rid ourselves of the Namib sand and be civilized for a couple of days. BLD / B

Spitzkoppe - Granite reminders of a volcanic era, Spitzkoppe. We spend the late afternoon exploring many hidden crevasses and caves in search of evidence of San occupation in earlier times. Sunset is spent high up on a rock ledge fascinated by the ever-changing rainbow off-color - red, burnt amber, yellow and orange: the Sunset of Spitzkoppe. A silent destination. BLD

Palmwag - We depart from this majestic setting and transverse the desert into Damaraland, moving on to visit the Bushman rock engravings at Twyfelfontein, thereafter we cross the mountains into the wilderness to camp in the Palmwag region. We hope to encounter the rare desert elephants on this day. We spend the late afternoon enjoying an awesome African sunset in an oasis setting. BL

Opuwo and the Himba Tribe. Our destination is the Capital of this barren land Opuwo. En route we are sure to meet up with the nomadic Himba, dressed in their ethnical skins and red coloring. Conditions are harsh and we spend the better part of this day enjoying the culture of this forgotten tribe. BLD

Epupa Falls is our destination today. We travel into the wastelands, northwards towards the Angolan border and the Kunene River. En route we will come into contact with many Himba folk. We are sure to trade salt and sugar with them, as their cultural jewelry is awesome. LD / BrD

First a really hard journey east to the Kunene River Lodge awaits us. After the tedious drive we relax tonight next to the river, enjoying sundowners on a deck overlooking the mighty Kunene. Tonight we dine in the lodge restaurant. BL

The "Great White Place of Dry Water". The Etosha National Park. After setting up camp at Fort Namutoni, it is out onto the Saltpans in search of the elusive game.
Photographic opportunities are unmatched. Etosha: an area of stark desolated beauty inhabited by Africa’s unique wildlife. BLD / BrD / Br

We depart the Etosha after a game drive excursion, and make our way north on a long, but interesting journey, showing us the true "African" face of Namibia. We restock provisions for our Okavango Delta excursion in Rundu and camp on the banks of the Kavango River across from Angola tonight. BL

A new day, first we explore the Mohango Game Reserve in search of the majestic Roan and Sable Antelope found here. Thereafter we head for a wild country. Botswana. Travel in 4x4 over sandy conditions to the verge of the waterway and transfer by motorboat to our Okavango Delta swamp island. Today we finally meet Africa and camp wild under the Palm or Ebony trees. We spend the evening around the campfire enjoying the aura of wild Africa, and looking over our shoulders into the darkness. Early morning game walk and then transfer back to our base camp in the heart of the permanent waters of the Okavango Delta. Crossing the border back into Botswana after lunch, we make our way to Ngepi Camp on the Okavango River is our next destination. Return north for the Angolan border and the Caprivi Strip. Ngepi is a great birding area in which the Paradise Flycatcher and Giant Kingfisher, two of the many rare Bird species, are found. Dinner in the ethnical restaurant tonight. BL

Transverse the Caprivi and re-enter Botswana to camp next to the park on the banks of the Chobe River for two days. Enjoy the option of sipping cold beers on the sundeck whilst enjoying a commercialized afternoon relaxing at the poolside.  BLD / BD

A new day, the last country, Victoria Falls in Zambia is calling. After the border crossing and a short drive we set up camp outside the bustling town of Livingstone.
Today we will visit the world-famous Victoria Falls. (Entry own expense) - One great way to end a fantastic adventure is by having a second fantastic adventure: Rafting the mighty Zambezi River. Do not be afraid, as this is the ultimate way of forging a unique bond between world travellers who have become friends. BLD

Today is yours to raft, fly, jump, ride or sightsee. The Zambian side of Victoria Falls is a recommendation for its curio market and rainforest. B

Caratteristiche della Spedizione:
Included: Itinerary and activities as specified, fully equipped Land Rover Defender safari vehicle. Camping and catering equipment, services of tour guides, all accommodation, all camp meals as specified and National Park entrance fees.
Accommodation Pre-Tour: We recommend to arrive the day before the date of departure. Airport transfers can be arranged.
Accommodation on Completion Of The Safari: Should you wish to extend your stay, we recommend pre-booking your accommodation. Airport Transfers can be arranged.
Travelling Documents: You require a passport, which must be valid 6 months after your departure from Africa. Travellers of most nationalities will have to pay entry visas for Zimbabwe and Zambia (obtainable at the borders).
Luggage on Tour: Maximum baggage allowance: 12 kg per client. Outback Africa Safaris stipulates this luggage allowance, as an overloaded vehicle is a danger to both the clients and the guide.
The baggage limitation does not include photographic equipment and a small daypack.
Please bring a backpack or soft barrel bag, not a suitcase.
Health: Malaria prophylaxes are required for this trip. There are currently no compulsory vaccinations required for any of the countries visited. Recommended vaccinations: Tetanus, Hepatitis A, and Typhoid.
